Roses

By Allison

Roses

with their thorns

and long, green stems.

Roses

with their dark leaves

and shaded petals,

soft and delicate

as they blow

in the

wind.

Roses

may be red

or yellow

pink

white

blue

purple.

Roses

blooming

in the spring,

soaking in the sun

and bathing

in color.

Roses,

wild and free.

Thorns

sharper than

spikes.

Petals,

thin

and delicate,

stained

with remnants

of watercolors

and bleached hues.

Stems,

adorned with dark green thorns

and pointed leaves

and jagged ends.

Roses

with their flaws

and their eternal beauty.

Flowers

cannot compare

with the rose,

the faded colors

of the red and white

swirled petals

and the thorns

preventing

you from

taking it home.

Daisies

and sunflowers,

colorful as they are,

do not have thorns,

no protection,

no outer shell.

Their colors

do not fade.

Their petals

are not as soft

or as delicate

or as innocent

as the rose.

Roses,

created from love

and hope

that its beauty

would not go unnoticed.

Roses,

with their thorns

and their petals

and their flaws.
