Running

Running

Allison

Running

is like leaping

with each step you take,

with each beat of your heart

in your chest.

Running.

Sneakers and tennis shoes

laced up

in double knots and bows

with rainbows of bright colors.

Ponytails

bouncing in the wind,

legs pumping to advance

across a plain of infinite possibility.

Breathing hard.

Hearing

the roaring

of the wind in your ears,

the adrenaline pumping

through your veins.

Flying

across a sky of

black asphalt and yellow lines,

across a sky of

soft green grass and

footprints in the dirt.

Tethered

to Earth

until your sneakers

leave the ground

and fly,

sprint,

jog.

Running

is not only for the strong

or the fit

or the skinny.
Running

is for people who try

and believe

that they can do it,

believe

that they can fly

and lift their feet

off the ground.
